How Soon After a Hair Transplant Procedure Can I Go Back To Work?

This question is one that we field all the time and fortunately, the answer is sooner than you may think. There are some variables that need to be taken into account when it comes to your profession, but the typical amount of time needed away from work after a hair transplant procedure is around 1-3 days. There are some fairly common techniques that you can use when styling your hair after the procedure that can help you to conceal any obvious signs of having had the procedure, which we will go over with you during your consultation.
Please note that if your job requires any kind of strenuous activity that you will need to take extra precaution and possibly more time away. Working out should be avoided for at least the first couple of weeks and anything that is comparable as well to ensure that your transplanted hairs take a firm hold in your scalp. I know after my procedure I decided to work the rest of that day and went directly back to work. I had a friend do the same thing but we can both hide in our offices and don’t have to interact with co-workers or clients unless we want.
The biggest thing for a lot of patients is more about how comfortable they are with their appearance for the first few days following the procedure. Unless your job is labor intensive, returning to work is more a matter of comfort level than ability to function or work.
I have known of guys having the procedure done and working during the procedure. As silly as it may sound, it happens. They’ll pull out their blackberry or Iphone and respond to e-mails, chat with co-workers, etc.

I took the day off after my surgery, but was back to work on that Friday. My work in an office, so there was no strenuous work. I did miss not being able to work out, but I was over-training a bit anyway and needed the break.

My work is not physically demanding so for that reason I was able to return to work the next day. With me there was some exisitng hair up there and that really helped to cover the temporary redness, kind of like a sunburn, that was there for the first week or so. I also used a little artificial camoflauging in the transplanted area when i was out at a social gathering a few days after my procedure. This made me feel a little less self aware of what i had just had done keep my friends from knowing until i was ready to tell them.

I work some construction, so it was a little different for me. I took 5 work days off to heal as to not bump my head on something in the field of work that i’m in. I’m an electrician by day. Also, i was able to wear a cap almost all the time and people got used to seeing me that way. My scalp was red underneath for a little while, but the hat covered it up well. I wore the cap around folks 2 weeks prior to my surgery. They never even new when i had it done. They just assumed that i loved wearing caps. It’s been 10 1/2 months now since my surgery. I’m tickled with the results! I no longer dodge the wind. The wind is my friend now. He can blow thru my hair all day and i hold my head high.
