I took 5 work days off to heal as to not bump my head on something in the field of work that i'm in. I'm an electrician by day. Also, i was able to wear a cap almost all the time and people got used to seeing me that way. My scalp was red underneath for a little while, but the hat covered it up well. I wore the cap around folks 2 weeks prior to my surgery. They never even new when i had it done. They just assumed that i loved wearing caps. It's been 10 1/2 months now since my surgery. I'm tickled with the results! I no longer dodge the wind. The wind is my friend now. He can blow thru my hair all day and i hold my head high. With me there was some exisitng hair up there and that really helped to cover the temporary redness, kind of like a sunburn, that was there for the first week or so. I also used a little artificial camoflauging in the transplanted area when i was out at a social gathering a few days after my procedure. This made me feel a little less self aware of what i had just had done keep my friends from knowing until i was ready to tell them. The biggest thing for a lot of patients is more about how comfortable they are with their appearance for the first few days following the procedure. Unless your job is labor intensive, returning to work is more a matter of comfort level than ability to function or work. I have known of guys having the procedure done and working during the procedure. As silly as it may sound, it happens.
