For some, the hair transplant is the easy part - deciding when and where are a little harder. But for a few, dealing with cold feet before a hair restoration surgery or after completing one is challenging. There are individuals who are here to help you but there are steps that you can take that may help alleviate anxiety as well.

You have made it through the tide of information concerning hair transplants and hair restoration surgery. You have had a consultation and discussed with your family how hair loss has affected you. You have worked past the concerns with the cost and where to go. You have decided, ‘I want and I need a real hair loss solution! I’m going in for hair transplant surgery!’ Now what?

If you are in this situation, you have made a great choice. Be confident that you are going to look great when your hair begins to grow back like you hoped it would. Your appearance will be something you are proud of. Remember, this is your body and your hair; if you aren’t pleased and satisfied with your appearance it shows. Going through the hair transplant process, with PAI Medical, is the easy part. It is allowing your body to heal and giving your hair time to regrow that takes patience. Talking with a hair transplant specialist is often the best medicine for ‘cold feet’ before a transplant procedure and a good reality check afterwards.

If you aren’t in this situation yet, you have come to the right place! People considering hair loss solutions involving surgery have often already tried everything else. Traditional methods of changing diet and stress management have had no effect, purchasing the creams and using chemicals has left you wanting. It is true to say however, that the leap from ‘thinking’ to ‘doing’ is a big one.

Here are a few questions you will want to consider:

How long have you been losing your hair?

Are you comfortable with the length of time after surgery it takes hair to regrow?

Are you open to discussing your hair loss? One on One? With Family Members?

Have you researched the hair transplant procedure? Have you found the truth or are you listening to myths about hair grafts, transplants and implants?

Have you talked to a hair transplant specialist?

Don’t rush into any surgery. But, take the time to educate yourself on what is involved in the hair transplant and restoration process. The only bad question is the one you don’t ask a professional. Consultations are free and so is the phone call. We are here to help and educate, not convince you. The choice is yours but you aren’t alone. Join the millions enjoying a renewed sense of self. We can Help!

Often, we receive emails, calls and letters from concerned individuals investigating hair restoration centers such as PAI Medical. From all these inquires and questions we have built our frequently asked questions sections, testimonials and some of the articles on the we grow hair blog. In the dialog below, Chris L. is asking about some of his options in dealing with genetic hair loss (hereditary as it were) and what options are available for him. As with most, Chris is a little concerned about the cost. (Real correspondence via Email)

Micheal,

I have a question for you. I am considering using the five step product you have in your office. I can’t remember the name of the product, but I think it was around $1200 for a year supply. According to the pictures you showed us, it will help thicken my hair. Is this a temporary fix, or is this a permanent fix? If the hair on the top of my head is genetically programmed to fall out, it would seem that this will just prolong the disappointing outcome of it falling out. If it does thicken up my hair, and I have the rest filled in later with a lesser amount of transplants than we discussed?

If the hair I thicken with that product falls out later after a lesser transplant, can we schedule another transplant to fill in the first one? The thing is, I am having a hard time with the idea of spending that kind of money all at once for something so selfish as feeling good because of a full head of hair. I really want a full head, don’t get me wrong, but $8,000 is a lot to spend for something like this. It almost seems selfish to me. I think I would have a lot easier time with it if it were broke into three or four smaller sums of money. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Thank you so much for your time,

Chris L.

Chris,

Good to hear from you. Yes, treatments are to help control future hair loss. If you stop using them, your hair loss will re-start. With the EXT Hair Treatment Program, we recommend the patient use the entire program for a year and then just the dietary supplement to help control any future loss so it is not as involved after the first year.

However, some patients just do more transplants as they continue to lose their hair. The transplanted hair is considered permanent so you’re adding good healthy hair to the area each time you do one.

Regarding the guilty feeling you are having - I did too. It is something each of us has to wrestle with. I felt like having my hair restored would help me professionally and socially. I knew I’d feel better about myself with more hair and that would positively impact everything I did and everyone I came in contact with. After the hair transplant, I realized I was exactly right. It has opened doors for me many times. Ironically, most patients tell me the same thing after their procedures.

As for breaking it up into smaller procedures, you can do that but you’ll invest more money in total that way. I think you’d be better off setting up a comfortable payment plan and getting as much done as you can at a time. Financing a level 8 would run about $204.00 a month and a 12 about $262.35.

What causes hair loss and can any of the causes be avoided? We break down a few of the most common causes and answer these questions.

This is a question that we answer for a lot of our hair transplant patients. One thing that most people may not know about their hair is that it goes through growth and rest cycles. Your hair will grow during a growth cycle, enter a resting phase, and will then fall out to be replaced by a new hair. Thinning begins to occur in this case once the rate of hairs lost exceeds the rate of new hair growth.

Possibly Preventable or Curable Hair Loss Causes

· Medications- A vast array of medications on the market today can result in hair loss as a side effect. Medications to treat arthritis, heart problems, and high blood pressure have especially been linked to hair loss.

· Hair Treatments- Excessive bleaching, dying, and heating causes hair to become brittle and to break off. Once the hair has become weak, it is also very succeptible to falling out.

· Poor Nutrition- Protein and iron are very important to the health of your hair and having less than recommended levels of either one in your diet can trigger hair loss.

· Scalp Infections- Ringworm is notorious for causing hair loss, when the fungal infections makes it’s home on the scalp. If this is the cause of your hair loss, you will have to treat the ringworm properly before the hair will begin to grow back.

Did Any of That Sound Familiar?

If any of the symptoms above have affected you recently, then contact us and we will work with you to develop the best course of action for getting your hair back to where you want it.
