A quick “Google” of ‘celebrity hair transplants’ brings up some of biggest names in sports, politics and Hollywood. David Beckham the Soccer star, President Berlusconi of Italy and blockbuster leading man Matthew McConaughey have all had hair transplants according to numerous sources. The list of others rumored to have had hair restoration surgery include some of the manliest and most handsome leading men. Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Mel Gibson, Kevin Costner, Nicholas Cage, Brandon Fraser, Tom Arnold, and Stephen Seagal are just a few believed to have had hair transplant surgery.
Hair restoration surgery is tremendously popular and has gone main stream. Ten years ago I used to hear questions from men considering hair restoration surgery say, ‘why aren’t more celebrities doing this?’ Today I hear, ‘have you seen how great Jude Law’s hair transplant looks?’ We had a gentleman come in after seeing John Gosselin of the T.V. reality show “John and Kate plus 8.” John had a hair transplant procedure on the show and the gentleman raved about how great his hair looked after johns hair had grown in.
Many stars openly talk about their procedures. Seventy-three year old President Berlusconi saod said that having his hair transplant has given him youthful vigor as he routinely enjoys the attention from female admirers 40 years younger. The reason more and more of these celebrities are having hair restoration surgery seems obvious. Appearance plays a substantial part in these people’s lives. Let’s face it; these men make a living in part by the way they look. Yes, David Beckham is an amazing athlete but most of his income is derived from endorsements. Marketers are no strangers to the relationship between appearance and effectiveness in advertising. The better the advertiser’s celebrity looks, the better their product sells and the more successful the advertising campaign. Many leading men today who are now in their 40s and 50s are dealing with aging and its ravenous affects on their career and social lives. Hair loss makes a man look older. Men report being happier and more fulfilled professionally and socially after their hair is restored. Whether you’re a plumber or movie star, how you look affects how you feel about yourself and how you interact with those around you. Yes it’s true some leading men maintain their appeal as they age but the majority don’t.
A hair transplant procedure would be more accurately called a ‘Hair Rearranging Procedure.’ That is more descriptive of what actually happens. Hair is taken from an area where there is more than is needed and ‘rearranged’ to the area of thinning or balding. When we do a hair transplant, we simply rearrange the hairs from one area to another. The days of the old hair plugs are gone. Today, a modern hair transplant is a natural, permanent solution for hair loss. Men often don’t understand why the transplanted hair is considered permanent. Most men have more hair on the sides and back than they need. The hairs from these areas are permanent in most men. So, we simply borrow some of the permanent hair seeds that grow in these areas and transplant them to the areas of hair loss.
One of the most appealing things about a hair transplant is the hair grows in so gradually. The little hair seeds that are transplanted gradually produce and grow the new little hairs. They don’t all grow in at once. Typically, it takes 3 to 4 months before the little seeds produce any hairs. Some of the seeds might take 6 to 8 months while some others might take 10 to 12. So in essence, the hair grows in gradually and thickens during the year following the procedure. Since the hair grows in so subtly, many people around don’t pick up on the fact that a person has more hair. Additionally, a hair transplant can be designed to be thin, moderately full, or quite full depending on the patient’s goals and donor hair. Some patients don’t want to be bald and are fine with some recession or a little transparency. At PAI Medical Group / WeGrowHair.com, we spend a lot of time going over pictures with patients of different hair line designs, different densities and hair styles to help meet each patient’s unique needs. Every patient has an ideal hair line and look. We want to make sure we achieve that each and every time. So whether you’re the movie star Matthew McConaughey or the plumber Mathew Butler, hair restoration surgery may be your answer to a happier more fulfilled life. “I know it was for me,” Michael concludes.
