Afro Hair Transplant Results?

For many Black men, the hairline is a crucial part of their identity and style. Dealing with a receding hairline or thinning crown can feel like losing a piece of that confidence. This patient came to us looking to turn back the clock and reclaim his edge without looking ‘worked on.’ Through a customized hair restoration plan, we were able to fill in the recession zones and restore a bold, youthful look.

FAQs about African American Hair Transplants

No. Unlike many clinics that only offer one method, we are highly proficient in both FUE (Follicular Unit Excision) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation). During your consultation, we will recommend the method that yields the highest number of healthy grafts for your specific hair texture and goals. For some patients with very curly hair, FUT is actually preferred as it allows us to dissect the follicles under magnification, ensuring the curl of the root is preserved and not damaged.

High Density Hair Grafting (HD/HG) does leave a linear scar, but modern surgical techniques have changed the game. We utilize a trichophytic closure, a specialized suturing technique that encourages hair to grow through the scar tissue. This significantly camouflages the line. If you plan to keep your hair at a medium length or longer (guard #3 or above), the scar is generally undetectable. If you plan to wear a skin-fade, FUE might be the better option to avoid a linear mark.

Yes. Afro-textured hair provides excellent coverage due to its curl, often requiring fewer grafts to achieve the look of full density compared to straight hair. Our team is experienced in navigating the unique "C-shape" of curly hair follicles to ensure the grafts survive and thrive in the new location.

We take keloid risks very seriously, especially with patients of African descent who may be genetically predisposed to them. We review your medical history and check previous scars during your exam. While keloids are a risk with any surgery, our precise closure techniques (for FUT) and punch management (for FUE) are designed to minimize tension and trauma to the skin, which reduces scar formation.

  • If you choose FUE: You can usually tidy up the back and sides within 2–3 weeks.

  • If you choose FUT: You will need to wait for the sutures to be removed (usually 10–14 days) and for the incision to heal before applying clippers near the line. We will provide a specific timeline for your barber based on your healing progress.

Yes. Because we are moving your own living hair follicles from the back of your head to the thinning areas, the texture, curl pattern, and growth rate will be exactly the same as your native hair. It will not look synthetic or different from the rest of your style.
