When Will My Hair Transplant Start Growing?
Consistant Patient Centric Followup Care
Pursuing a Hair Transplant
The Hair Transplant Process - Start to Finish
The biggest question for most patients is when will my hair transplant start growing? We will give you the answer to that question and more as we talk about what happens during the first year of your hair transplant starting with the consultation!
Step 1 – Meet a Patient Care Consultant
Consultation
During your meeting with an experienced patient care consultant you will:
- Discuss your family / hair loss history
- Receive an in-depth microscopic hair and scalp analysis
- See hundreds of before/after pictures
- Choose one or more proven hair restoration options
Step 2 –Procedure Day
Hair Transplant
A friendly staff member will make sure you’ve eaten, then show you to your own private treatment room. You will have a consultation with the doctor to finalize a detailed plan of action for your individual hair restoration. During the actual procedure, hair will be harvested and transplanted into thinning areas. Due to pain management medication, it is recommended that you have a driver after the procedure is over.
Step 3 – After the Procedure
Post-Op Instructions
You and your friend or family member will be given printed and verbal aftercare instructions. Although this is a mild outpatient procedure, activity should be restricted for the first 48 hours. You should receive a care call from staff, and we are available if you have any questions after the procedure.Â
Step 4 – Hair Wash Day
The Day After
It’s time to return to the office for a hair wash and examination. Aftercare instructions will be reviewed again. If you had an MUHG procedure, you will be given a 10 day suture removal appointment.Â
Step 5 - For MUHG Patients Only
Suture Removal
MUHG Patients only will return to the office 10 days after your hair transplant to have your sutures removed.
Step 6- Back to Normal
Two Weeks Later
All your scabs will be gone and you can return to everyday activities such as exercise or heavy lifting.Â
Step 7 - Transplanted Hair Sheds
4-6 Weeks
You should expect your newly transplanted hair to shed temporarily, but it will grow back.
Step 8 - Hair Starts to Grow
3-5 Months
At this point, if you’ve been wondering, “when will my hair transplant start growing?”, you will be encouraged to know that the time is here. Every patient is different, but people generally see hair growth after 3-5 months. You will receive a touch from our staff periodically and we have an open door policy. Any patient is welcome to visit our office to discuss their progress.
Step 9 - Checking in
6 Month Followup
Another meeting with your patient care consultant will be scheduled in order to document your progress and discuss hair maintenance treatments.
Step 10 - Return to the Office
12 Month Results
You should expect to return to the office for a final follow-up visit, where your patient care consultant will examine the final results with microscopic analysis, and document your progress with pictures. At that time, you can discuss hair restoration maintenance options at that time. It might also be a good time to discuss a second transplant if you desire.
